Bonn, James Bonn

Today we pedaled for five hours and a slow 70 kilometers (~43 miles) from Koblenz to Bonn (like bon, not bone).

The weather was pretty perfect and we enjoyed shade for a good portion of the day. There were a few miles of industrialness as well as some riding on a path on the side of a busy road/highway. Unfortunately, far less castles than yesterday. 😦

Is that a… Nuclear power plant?? Yes. Yes, it is. We couldn’t tell if it was active but assumed/hoped it wasn’t.

My ride with a sign that didn’t even have our destination city listed yet which means we weren’t even close to being close. By the way, I did a better job packing up my things into the panniers which means there may be some room for souvenirs after all 😁
A sample of our path from today. There was a modern looking bridge that reminded me of the Lenny Zakim bridge back home in Boston.
This bandaid is a fashion statement a la Nelly circa 2004. I did not have an accident in which I mistook a big curb for a small one. I repeat… Fashion statement; not injury. Side note: wear your helmets, kids!! They save faces and brains. Let us all come together to pray that the small cut that is not above my eyebrow beneath my fashion statement stays localized and I do not get a matching black eye to Mark’s. 🙏📿😂
Happy 4th of July!! I’m wearing my red, white (and black) and blue! Fingers are crossed this bruise doesn’t get worse over night lol
We saw lots of container ships today. Like maybe more containers than cornfields even.
Coupla castles. It was such a beautiful day and I really started to appreciate it a few hours after my fall when I stopped self-loathing.
This was a long five hours 🙄. Good news is that we have just two days left on the bike before we make it to Amsterdam for a few days of relaxing and staying in one place. We have a short day tomorrow to Köln (aka Cologne) and then a medium day to Düsseldorf.

Guten nacht! I’m not sure how I am even awake right now but I am feeling blessed that our AIS (ass in saddle) time isn’t until 9:30 tomorrow.

    1. Thank you for following, Dan!! We really missed you guys. I wish I was more consistent with the stats as you were in your posts. I don’t think I made it over 30 km/hr for our entire trip and I wish I had the average speed figured out. I’ll have to play around with my computer

  2. So sorry for your meeting with the pavement. My favorite thing about Bonn was our visit to Beethoven Haus, of course. That castle looks like Drachenfels, just outside Konigswinter. Hope you’re healing quickly. Really enjoying following your journey!
